Overworld Maps vs your default maps app
Overworld Maps isn't trying to replace every job a standard maps app does. It's for the drive itself: getting there on a map worth looking at. Here's where it differs, including what it can't do yet.

Side by side
| Feature | Overworld Maps | A standard maps app |
|---|---|---|
| The look | Three game worlds, each with its own map, HUD and menus | One look, day and night |
| Car screen | A game HUD with speed, limit sign and alerts in one place | The standard Android Auto cards |
| Traffic | Only on your route, unless you turn on every road | Usually coloured across the whole map |
| Flyovers | Drawn above the roads below, with the route over or under them | Usually flat |
| Speed cameras | From OpenStreetMap, plus your own with + Cam | Varies by country and app |
| Ads and accounts | No ads, no account | Usually a signed-in account, and promoted places |
| Offline maps | Not yet | Usually yes |
| Reviews, photos, opening hours | No | Yes |
| Public transport and walking | No, driving only | Yes |
| iPhone and CarPlay | Not yet | Usually yes |
Where Overworld is better
A calmer map. GTA V and GTA VI hide road names, the way the games do, and traffic stays on your route: amber where it's slow, red for jams, darkest where it's closed. There's less to read at a glance.
Everything in one place on the car screen. Your turn, the next turn, road alerts, time, speed and the limit sign sit together on the left of the screen. Sound and zoom buttons stay hidden until you touch the map.
A steadier marker. GPS fixes that jump further than the car could have driven are held back, so at a red light the marker stays put, and under a flyover it carries on along the road. A real wrong turn still reroutes within seconds.
It's fun. The same commute looks different in ink and parchment. That matters more than it sounds.
When to keep your default app
Keep it around if you need offline maps, public transport or walking directions, or if you want reviews and opening hours before you set off. Overworld is for the drive, not for planning the evening.
